Wolfmeyer: First of all, I would like to tell a story, because I have also been following the ESC influencers who have given their comments on the ESC, and I had to laugh out loud at one contribution. All 3 influencers who trashed the song „Crossroads“ tried to sing the song and failed miserably.
We call this the Whitney Houston Effect. Songs that sound simple are not always simple. Everyone has tried to sing the song „I Will Always Love You“ and ended up with croaking at the end.
I used to have a very large vocal range and once even had a singing contest on stage with Corry Gass (Austrian singer with jazz vocal training in the 80s from the band „Love Bits“). I could beat her in the low notes, but in the high notes I was simply no JJ — I was missing a whole octave.
An influencer who sings under the shower and then sees himself as a music professional may get unique hits with his videos, but that’s it. Of course, if you don’t understand anything about music either, then exactly these influencers feed you songs that you might find great because you have just as little feel for music.
Why am I so disappointed that Azerbaijan was voted out? The voice is unique and the song was presented absolutely perfectly. What the singer lacked, however, was the „Da Da Da“ (Trio 1982) effect, like with Bangaranga.
Songs like Bangaranga, Sauna, … are typical beer tent songs that you can still sing along to after a few beers or glasses of wine. We also know Israel’s crying buoy here as Modern Talking. From a musical point of view, they are overloaded with vibrato and drama, but otherwise have no real control or technique behind them. In other words, an ideal karaoke song that is easy to intonate.
